چکیده

This study aimed to quantify forage yield, economic performance, biological efficiency and competitive ability in cactus intercropped with millet, compared their monocrops, both without mulch, under irrigation. The experiment was conducted over two years semi-arid of Brazil. experimental design randomised blocks four replications six treatments: monocropped mulch; millet mulch mulch. individual yields fresh (270 t ha−1) dry (23 matter the were not affected by or intercropping. Mulching improved (69.7 (23.4 millet. Total greater intercropping systems, (32.8 (31.4 mulching, being average monetary advantage index equal 8 404 BRL ha−1. cactus-millet configuration, irrespective use but irrigated environments during periods year, is more advantageous than because it promotes gains production food diversity for meeting demand herd.

Forage yield and quality of barley-annual medic intercrops in semi-arid environments

On-farm production of protein is limited in most dairy farm operations in arid and semi-arid environments. Cereal-legume intercropping could be a viable option to obtain forage with higher protein content. A two-year experiment was conducted during 2009 and 2010 growing seasons in a loamy soil to determine whether intercropping pattern of barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) and annual medic (Medica...

Runoff and sediment yield modeling using WEPP in a semi-arid environment (Case study: Orazan Watershed)

Water erosion is a major environmental problem in many parts of the world. Majority of semi-arid countries are concerned because of their specific climate and soils sensitivity, but also because of the recent intensification of human activities and agricultural practices. Accurate estimation of water erosion for various land-use and climate scenarios is so an important key to define sustainable...

Legume-Cereal Intercropping Improves Forage Yield, Quality and Degradability.

Intercropping legume with cereal is an extensively applied planting pattern in crop cultivation. However, forage potential and the degradability of harvested mixtures from intercropping system remain unclear. To investigate the feasibility of applying an intercropping system as a forage supply source to ruminants, two consecutive experiments (experiments 1 and 2) involving a field cultivation t...
